“The greatest cultural extravaganza that one could imagine.” — David Bowie
My first trip to Germany, I happened to be there during the 20th anniversary since the wall had come down, so there was a lot going on surrounding the history and celebrating it.
Our first stop was to what remained of the wall, a gallery of art painted on the remains of the wall in 1990. I actually just read, while looking up information on this, that they are destroying a section of it for luxury apartments. So sad. :(
Since we were there during the 20th anniversary, the art was cleaned up.
We went to what is left of Checkpoint Charlie
In places throughout the city there are bricks to show where the wall once stood. This one is near Checkpoint Charlie.
Usually just one wall is shown, except in Potsdamer Platz, where they show both.
I leave you with one of my favorite pieces from The East Side Gallery
Sorry for the short post today, things are a little hectic as I get ready for my STAYCATION WOOO. <3
