“Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.” -Seneca
Yes, you read right. Adventure time Tuesday. Hold onto your hats, kids.
I have gotten to see some amazing places in the last few years that I have been traveling. I once took a trip to London when I was 18 with my drama group [ah yes, drama, I was that kid in high school], and didn’t know if I would ever make it back to Europe. But alas, I did! Also, I am pro at taking pictures of everything but myself.
Today, here are a couple pics from the castle in Versailles. I won’t pretend to try to speak even a little French by calling it the chataux…see I don’t even think I can spell it right. Let’s stick with English. Would you know I took two years of French in high school?
I first went to France in May of 2008, staying in Versailles, and was blown away by the castle. This picture is after walking down the path, further into the gardens, and turning back to face the castle. It was crazy to me how huge this place was, and I didn’t even see all of it this first time I was there.
This is a picture I took before walking down the path. You can see the fountain in the first picture just before the huge stretch of water. To the right and left there are more little areas to explore, and there is a whole area that Marie Antoinette had built just for herself. It’s so adorable.
The amount of space on the castle grounds is just dazzling, especially to someone [me] who grew up in cities, where space is a commodity that usual just gets filled with more strip malls and fast food. And just outside the castle is the city, especially an awesome bar where you can sit just outside and watch all the people coming and going. It’s really a great experience.
If I had visited so many places that I could have a Top Ten Places I Have Visited list, Versailles would definitely be on that list. One day, I hope to be able to do so! 8D
